Student Detained Over Bomb Threats to Schools
A Class 12 student was detained by Delhi Police after sending bomb threat emails to at least 23 schools in the capital. The police investigation revealed that the student’s motive was to avoid school exams.
The Threats and Their Impact
The bomb threats were sent to various schools with the student using the tactic of cc’ing the emails to multiple schools besides his own. The student sought to avoid suspicion and delay exams through these threats. During questioning, the student confessed to having sent similar emails on previous occasions as well.
Previous Instances of Bomb Threats
This incident is part of a broader pattern of bomb threat emails received by schools in Delhi in recent months. In November, Delhi Police uncovered that a bomb threat to Venkateshwar Global School was actually sent by two students seeking to postpone their exams.
Hoaxes and False Alarms
Despite the severity of the threats, they have been found to be hoaxes. The most alarming recent case occurred in October when a bomb threat near a CRPF school in Rohini set off a panic but fortunately resulted in no injuries.
Wider Trend of Threats
The trend of bomb threats began on December 9, with more than 40 schools receiving similar emails. This was followed by another spate of threats received by 30 schools a few days later. Since May 2024, more than 50 bomb threat emails have also been sent to hospitals and airports in Delhi.
