A tragic incident of sexual assault involving a five-year-old boy in Delhi’s Govindpuri area has led to significant unrest and protests. The assault, which was disclosed on September 1, has caused an outcry among residents and triggered substantial police and paramilitary intervention.

The assault was allegedly committed by the boy’s neighbor, Balram Das, also known as Kalu. The boy informed his parents about the abuse, leading to a police report and the registration of a POCSO case. Das was arrested late on Tuesday night. The arrest prompted an intense reaction from the local community, who gathered in large numbers to protest.

The situation escalated when locals surrounded the Govindpuri police station, blocking roads and disrupting traffic. Protesters, demanding justice, engaged in a sit-in, chanting slogans, and clashed with the police. Despite the high tension, the police managed to protect the accused and control the crowd.

In response to the growing unrest, Delhi Police deployed additional forces and called in paramilitary troops to manage the situation. The boy, who was lured and drugged by Das before the assault, was found by his family and brought to the police station. Following this, he was taken to AIIMS for a medical examination and later moved to a care home in Lajpat Nagar.

On Tuesday, the boy’s statement was recorded before a magistrate. He testified to the Child Welfare Committee that Das had inappropriately touched him. The case has drawn significant attention to issues of child safety and the adequacy of local law enforcement responses.

The heavy police presence and paramilitary forces continue to ensure order in Govindpuri as the community awaits further action and justice in this disturbing case.
