A Circle Inspector, M Ravi Kumar, stationed in Khajipet, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following allegations of attempting to rape a minor girl. The incident reportedly took place when the victim was home alone.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the Circle Inspector, currently stationed in Hyderabad, encountered a minor girl from his apartment complex talking with a classmate in the corridor. He asked the classmate to leave before inviting the girl into his flat.
Once inside, the officer allegedly attempted to pull her into the bedroom. Fortunately, the girl managed to escape his grasp. After the incident, he threatened her against telling anyone and forcibly obtained her mobile number.
The victim escaped and immediately informed her parents, who confronted Ravi Kumar and questioned him about the incident. He threatened them and began harassing the girl through missed calls. The parents then lodged a formal complaint with local police authorities.
Upon receiving the complaint, a case was registered against the Circle Inspector, and an investigation is currently underway. Although the incident occurred earlier this month, the complaint was registered on the night of October 22.
Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.
