Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
Two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawans were killed in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Saturday. The jawans were returning from an anti-Naxal operation in the Abujhmad region when they were hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxals. The deceased jawans were identified as 36-year-old Amar Panwar from Maharashtra’s Satara and K. Rajesh, also 36, from Andhra Pradesh’s Kadappa.
Narayanpur SP Prabhat Kumar confirmed that both jawans were from the ITBP’s 53rd Battalion. The attack also left two personnel from the Narayanpur District Police injured, who are currently in stable condition.
The explosion occurred between 11:30 am and 12:00 noon, in a forest near Kodlier village, as a joint team of ITBP, Border Security Force (BSF), and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was returning from an operation.
This incident is part of a series of recent Naxal attacks in Chhattisgarh. In July, two jawans were killed and four injured in a similar IED blast in Bijapur district. In June, two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed by a roadside IED blast during a routine patrol as part of a Road Opening Party.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh has witnessed a rise in Naxal casualties. In the first half of 2024, over 140 Naxals were gunned down by security forces in the state.
