Channi on Amritpal Singh: Emergency Concerns Raised

Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi raised concerns in the Lok Sabha over the detention of Amritpal Singh, an elected MP from Khadoor Sahib. Channi criticized the government, questioning the current state of democracy by highlighting Amritpal Singh’s continued imprisonment under the National Security Act (NSA).

Amritpal Singh was arrested last year with his associates during a confrontation with the police. Despite his imprisonment, Singh contested and won the Lok Sabha election. However, his detention has prevented him from representing his constituency’s interests in Parliament.

Channi‘s comments sparked controversy, particularly within political circles. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann distanced himself from Channi’s statements, emphasizing law and order. The BJP also reacted strongly, with Giriraj Singh accusing the Congress of supporting separatist movements.
