The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a major NEET exam malpractice in Godhra, Gujarat. Candidates from various states, including Odisha, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, were involved. These candidates took their NEET-UG exams at a center in Godhra. However, they were instructed to select Gujarati as the examination language. This allowed local individuals involved in the exam process to fill out the answer sheets on their behalf.
The CBI revealed this information while seeking custody of the accused in a Gujarat court. The investigation showed that these candidates were asked to list Panchmahal or Vadodara as their permanent address. This move aimed to mask their true origin and avoid detection. The exam centers involved in this malpractice were controlled by the same operators.
Five out of six accused individuals are currently in CBI custody. Dixit Patel, the owner of Jai Jalaram School in Godhra, is one of them. This school was one of the designated NEET-UG exam centers on May 5. Patel was arrested on June 30 and is accused of demanding Rs 10 lakh from each student to secure their NEET-UG results.
The CBI took over this investigation from Gujarat police last month. The focus is now on uncovering the interstate connections of this conspiracy. So far, the CBI has registered six FIRs and arrested 11 people. The FIR in Bihar relates to paper leaks, while those in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra involve candidate impersonation and cheating.
