Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), focusing specifically on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Thackeray claimed that displaying their images in election campaigns is a guarantee of defeat. Speaking at a gathering in Jalna, Maharashtra, he noted that almost all political parties are using images of his father, Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, in their campaigns. He stated, “The BJP won’t show Modi or Shah’s images on their posters because they’re a guarantee of defeat.”
Use of Balasaheb’s Image
Following Uddhav Thackeray’s remarks, Aaditya Thackeray, the UBT Sena candidate from the Worli seat, extended the criticism, accusing the BJP of fostering division. He said, “This is BJP’s policy: divide and loot. In Maharashtra, we will not allow disputes over caste or religion, nor let BJP’s divisive tactics shape our state.”
Questions on Employment and Development
Aaditya also questioned BJP’s commitment to development, accusing it of prioritizing Gujarat over Maharashtra. He remarked, “Instead of embroiling us in history, the Prime Minister should answer why jobs for Maharashtra’s youth were taken to Gujarat.”
Rane’s Counterattack
BJP leader Narayan Rane responded, alleging that Uddhav Thackeray abandoned Hindutva for power. He predicted that the UBT Sena would win no more than 25 seats in the upcoming elections.
Voting Dates
Maharashtra will conduct assembly elections on November 20 in a single phase, with vote counting set for November 23.
