A shocking incident has come to light in Bengaluru, where a student from Krupanidhi Group of Institutions was brutally assaulted by his seniors for refusing to shave his moustache and beard. The accused seniors, identified as Xavier Issac, Vishnu, and Sharath, had allegedly targeted the victim, Goutham, since he joined the college in April.
According to reports, the confrontation escalated when Goutham resisted the seniors’ demands to shave his facial hair. On August 30, the situation turned violent when the accused took Goutham to a church in Hadosiddapura. Upon his refusal to comply, the seniors physically assaulted him, resulting in a fractured shoulder. The attack left Goutham severely injured, necessitating surgery.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed by the police details that the accused not only attacked Goutham but also threatened his family at the hospital. The case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 118(1) and 118(2) for causing hurt by dangerous weapons, 126(2) for wrongful restraint, 189(2) for unlawful assembly, 190 for accountability of assembly members in an offence, 191(2) for rioting, and 351 for criminal intimidation.
The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Goutham’s ordeal has raised serious concerns about student safety and ragging in educational institutions. The authorities have promised strict action against those found guilty. The incident underscores the need for stricter enforcement of anti-ragging measures in colleges.
