Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Mumbai Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. The incident occurred on Saturday outside his office when three attackers suddenly opened fire. Baba Siddique was rushed to Lilavati Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The attackers have been identified as Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19) and Gurmail Baljit Singh (23). They were produced in a local court, which ordered them to remain in police custody. The court also mandated a bone ossification test for Kashyap to determine his real age, as he claimed to be 17.
According to the initial investigation, the third shooter accompanying Kashyap and Singh is Shiv Kumar, who is currently at large. The police have also identified a suspect, Mohammad Jasin Akhtar, who is likely connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
On Saturday evening, Dharmaraj, Shiv, and Gurmail arrived outside Baba Siddique’s MLA son Zeeshan Siddique’s office. Baba Siddique was firing crackers when he was shot. Mumbai Police stated that the attackers had initially planned to use pepper spray on Baba Siddique before firing at him.
Baba Siddique’s security personnel managed to apprehend Dharmaraj and Gurmail, while Shiv Kumar successfully fled the scene. Both Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap and Shiv Kumar are residents of Uttar Pradesh, while Gurmail hails from Haryana.
Gurmail has a criminal history. He was arrested in a murder case in 2019 but was later released on bail. His family reported that they had disowned him 11 years ago.
Shiv Kumar and Dharmaraj have no criminal history. Shiv’s mother mentioned that he had gone to Pune to work at a scrap shop. Dharmaraj’s mother expressed her unawareness of her son’s activities in Mumbai.
Police are also seeking another suspect, Mohammad Jasin Akhtar, who is from Jalandhar and has seven cases registered against him. He was released from jail on June 7 this year and allegedly received a contract to kill Baba Siddique from the Bishnoi gang.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for Baba Siddique’s murder, alleging that he had close ties to Bollywood actor Salman Khan. However, police have not yet confirmed the involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and are continuing their investigation.
