Haryana BJP Leader Ashok Tanwar’s Dramatic ‘Ghar Wapsi’ to Congress at Rahul Gandhi’s Rally
In a major political development just two days before the Haryana Assembly elections, BJP leader and former MP Ashok Tanwar has rejoined Congress. This significant announcement was made during a rally led by Rahul Gandhi in Mahendragarh district.
As Rahul Gandhi concluded his address, the crowd was asked to wait for a special announcement. Moments later, Ashok Tanwar, who had earlier this year switched to the BJP, made a surprise appearance on stage. His return to Congress was marked with the declaration, “Aaj unki ghar wapsi ho gayi hai” (Today, he has returned home to Congress).
Ashok Tanwar, a prominent Dalit leader and former Haryana Congress president, left the party in 2019 following differences with senior leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda. His rejoining Congress, just before the campaign deadline for the October 5 Assembly elections, is expected to provide a significant boost to the party as it aims to unseat the BJP in the state.
On stage, Tanwar was warmly embraced by Rahul Gandhi and Hooda, who welcomed him back into the fold with a pat on the back. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal was also present during the announcement.
Ashok Tanwar’s political journey has seen multiple shifts over the past few years. After leaving Congress in 2019, he briefly joined the Trinamool Congress before switching to the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022. Earlier this year, he had joined the BJP.
His return to Congress at such a crucial juncture is likely to energize the party’s efforts in the upcoming polls.
The Haryana Assembly elections will take place on October 5, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.
