Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Following the recent stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray strongly criticized Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, calling the incident a failure of railway safety under his administration. The stampede resulted in injuries to nine people, with two in critical condition.
Aaditya Thackeray stated, “I wish our Rail Minister could focus on railway safety instead of making reels. The Bandra incident reflects the lack of capability in ensuring railway safety.” Other opposition leaders joined in, pointing out inadequate train services during the festive season and failures in local administration.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Western Railway officials, the stampede occurred when two passengers attempted to board a moving train. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also criticized the minister, saying he is “too focused on the bullet train project” while ignoring Mumbai’s railway issues.
This incident, linked to overcrowding during festival travel and poor management, has brought railway safety to the forefront, particularly as Maharashtra heads towards assembly elections.
