KT Rama Rao recently visited a sewage treatment plant (STP) and announced that Hyderabad is set to become the first city to achieve 100% sewage treatment. He stated that the previous BRS government launched a project to construct 31 STPs in Hyderabad, aimed at treating the entire city’s sewage water.
Speaking to the media, KTR emphasized that once the ongoing STP construction projects are completed, Hyderabad will attain this significant milestone. He urged the current Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government to prioritize and expedite the completion of these STP projects.
Providing details about the project, KTR mentioned that it was initiated by the previous BRS government, involving 31 STPs with a combined capacity of 1,259.50 MLD, with an investment of ₹3,866 crore. Once fully operational, these STPs will treat the sewage water for the entire city of Hyderabad.
KTR further highlighted that efforts are underway to make Hyderabad a dirty water-free city. He accused the Congress government of slowing down the progress of this project after taking power.
“For the Musi (redevelopment) project, first they say ₹1.50 lakh crore will be spent, then they mention ₹50,000 crore, and later ₹70,000 crore. Listening to this raises doubts about whether the real motive is Musi beautification or something else,” he stated.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had previously claimed that the BRS government did not build any double-bedroom houses for the poor, but now he states that double-bedroom homes will be provided for those who are relocated after clearing encroachments along the Musi river. KTR remarked that Reddy is now compelled to acknowledge the work done during the BRS regime.
“When the dirty water of Musi is being cleaned by STPs, new dramas are being played in the name of Musi cleaning,” he concluded.
