Hezbollah fired 140 rockets at northern Israel on Friday in retaliation for Israeli strikes on villages and homes in southern Lebanon. This attack followed a warning from Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who had vowed to respond to Israeli aggression. Both the Israeli military and Hezbollah confirmed the rocket strikes, which targeted multiple sites along the Israel-Lebanon border, including air defense bases and the headquarters of an Israeli armored brigade, marking the first time that such a target had been hit.
According to Israeli military sources, the rockets were fired in three waves, focusing on areas along the heavily contested border with Lebanon. Hezbollah stated that the strikes were in direct response to Israeli bombings that had caused significant damage to southern Lebanese villages.
Since October 8, the day after the initial Israel-Hamas conflict erupted, Hezbollah and Israel have engaged in near-daily exchanges of fire. However, Friday’s rocket barrage represented a significant escalation. On Thursday, Nasrallah had promised to continue daily strikes against Israel, despite the sabotage of Hezbollah’s communication devices earlier this week, which he referred to as a “severe blow.”
The destruction of thousands of Hezbollah’s pagers and walkie-talkies in attacks attributed to Israel has heightened fears that the ongoing clashes may spiral into full-scale war. While Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for these attacks, the situation along the border remains volatile, with concerns mounting over the potential for a broader conflict.
