Wolves Terrorise Bahraich: Toddler Killed, 3 Injured in Latest Attack

Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district is on high alert as wolves continue to terrorise the region. Over the past one-and-a-half months, a pack of wolves has claimed the lives of eight children and a woman, creating panic among the residents. The latest attack saw a two-year-old girl killed and three others injured, despite ongoing efforts by forest officials to patrol the area.

Anjali, the toddler, was attacked early on Monday. The other injured victims, seven-year-old Paras and Kamala Devi, have been hospitalized, while a third individual, Anchala, suffered minor injuries. Kamala Devi recounted the harrowing incident, stating that she was attacked by a wolf while returning from the washroom at around 11:30 pm on Sunday night. The wolf scratched her neck and ear, forcing her to scream, which eventually scared it away.

Kamala Devi’s son, Mansa Ram, described how the wolf managed to break through a poorly fixed door to enter their house and attack his mother. The repeated wolf attacks have prompted Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani to urge residents to remain vigilant and sleep indoors.

Monika Rani stated, “We have captured four wolves; two are still at large. Our teams are constantly patrolling, and we are doing everything possible to capture the remaining wolves soon.” Currently, at least 35 villages are on high alert as the attacks continue.

The forest department has launched ‘Operation Bhediya’ to capture the wolves, using elephant dung and urine as deterrents. Several teams have been formed to patrol the affected areas, especially at night, to ensure the safety of residents.

The terror caused by these wolves has disrupted the daily lives of many, leaving the community in constant fear. Despite the efforts to capture the remaining wolves, the residents of Bahraich remain anxious, hoping that the situation will be brought under control soon.
