Indian Railways Counters Congress’s Derailment Claim in Sonbhadra
The Indian Railways has sharply rebutted Congress’s allegations regarding a recent goods train derailment in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh. The Railway Ministry clarified that the track and locomotive involved in the incident do not belong to Indian Railways but are associated with Northern Coalfield Limited (NCL).
On Sunday, Congress posted a video on X, showing a derailed goods train and criticizing Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. They labeled him as a “Reel Mantri,” implying incompetence. The video was accompanied by the caption, “Reel Minister, A goods train derailed in Sonbhadra, UP. Add this also to the ‘small’ incidents.”
In response, the Ministry of Railways swiftly addressed the issue on X, stating, “The locomotive does not belong to Indian Railways. The track is not part of Indian Railways’ infrastructure, and the wagon is also not owned by Indian Railways.”
The BJP quickly seized the opportunity to criticize Congress. BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya described Congress’s actions as a new low under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. Malviya’s post read, “Official handle of Ministry of Railways fact checks Congress. This must be a new low. But then under Third Time Fail Rahul Gandhi, no low is low enough.”
The derailment occurred earlier in the day in the Shaktinagar area around 11.30 am. Two wagons and the locomotive of a private goods train, owned by a power plant, went off the rails. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The train, which was transporting coal from Khadia to Anpara power plant, was on a track maintained by the power plant.
The Railway Ministry’s clarification emphasized that the incident involved private infrastructure, not the assets of Indian Railways.
