2 Soldiers Killed in Anantnag Terrorist Gunfight

On Saturday, a fierce gunfight between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the death of two soldiers. The clash occurred in the Kokernag forest area, following an intelligence tip-off about terrorist activity.

According to sources, three other soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter. The operation was initiated by a joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the region.

The firefight erupted when terrorists opened fire on the security personnel who were engaged in a search and combing operation. The terrorists are believed to have entered Anantnag from Doda in the Jammu region. The area, known for its dense forests, has posed significant challenges for communication and coordination during the ongoing operation.

An Army statement confirmed the clash, noting, “Based on specific intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF in the general area of Kokernag, Anantnag. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued. Two personnel have been injured and evacuated from the area. The operation is in progress.”

The encounter in Anantnag is the latest in a series of attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Just two weeks prior, one soldier was killed and four others, including a Major, were injured in a clash with Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district. Additionally, earlier, four Army personnel and a police officer were killed in Doda during an encounter with heavily armed terrorists linked to the Pakistan-backed group, JeM.

As the situation in Anantnag continues to develop, security forces remain engaged in the operation, striving to neutralize the threat posed by the heavily armed terrorists.
