Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi has criticized the newly formed BJP government. Atishi alleged that the BJP promised to give women a monthly allowance of Rs 2,500 before the election but did not fulfill it in the first cabinet meeting. In response, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has hit back at Atishi. This political battle is centered around the Delhi Women Allowance.
Rekha Gupta’s Response
Rekha Gupta advised Atishi not to lecture and to focus on her own work. Gupta said, “It’s our government; the agenda will be ours. Let us work. She doesn’t need to tell us everything; she has done what she has to while being in power.” Gupta questioned, “The Congress ruled for 15 years and the AAP ruled for 13. Instead of looking at what they did, how can they raise questions on one day of yours?”
BJP’s Commitment
Gupta claimed the AAP’s main problem is with the BJP remembering all their pre-poll commitments. She asked both Arvind Kejriwal’s party and the Congress to focus on their own parties. Gupta said, “There are many people who want to leave. We will worry about Delhi now, and Delhi will get its rights under the leadership of PM Modi.”
Corruption Allegations
The Delhi Chief Minister told reporters, “These are the same people who ruled for years, and under their reign, so many incidents of corruption have come to the fore. They are afraid that when the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report is tabled on the first day of the Assembly session, several people’s secrets will be unearthed.”
Other Announcements
During the first cabinet meeting on Thursday, the BJP government in Delhi said it would implement the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat health scheme in the capital, a key poll promise by the party. During a press briefing later, Gupta also said that her government will table the 14 CAG reports on the performance of the previous AAP-led administration. These reports were blocked by Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP when it was in power.
Atishi’s Accusation
In a nearly three-minute-long video, Atishi said that on the first day itself, the BJP has started “breaking their promises”. “(The) BJP has made up their mind to cheat people of Delhi. It’s sad that a woman Chief Minister broke her promise to women on the first day in office.” She also shared a poster on X, showing women with a placard that read “women of Delhi are waiting” for the Rs 2,500 monthly allowance.
First Installment of Allowance
Rekha Gupta said on Thursday that the first installment of a Rs 2,500 monthly allowance to Delhi women will be credited to their accounts by March 8. The scheme was mentioned in the BJP’s manifesto with the aim of countering the then-AAP government’s promise of a Rs 2,100 monthly allowance to women, if voted to power.
