The Congress party has taken a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a recent remark by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat. The comment, made during a village-level workers meeting in Jharkhand on Thursday, has been interpreted by Congress MP Jairam Ramesh as a veiled criticism of the Prime Minister.
During his speech, Mohan Bhagwat discussed the concept of progress and the human desire to become greater beings. He stated, “There is no end of progress… People want to become superman, but they don’t stop there. Then they want to become ‘Devta’ (deity), and then ‘Bhagwan’ (God). But ‘Bhagwan’ says he is a ‘Vishwaroop’ (omnipresent). Nobody knows whether there is anything bigger than that.”
Bhagwat continued, “There is no end of development. One should think that there is always scope for more. The workers should understand this. One should always strive for more.”
While Bhagwat did not mention PM Modi directly, Jairam Ramesh took to social media to suggest that the RSS chief was taking a swipe at the Prime Minister. He tweeted, “I am sure the self-anointed non-biological PM has got news of this latest Agni Missile, fired by Nagpur from Jharkhand and aimed at Lok Kalyan Marg.”

The controversy stems from a past interview where PM Modi reportedly claimed he was “not biological but sent by God.” In that interview, Modi said, “Until my mother was alive, I used to think I was born biologically. After her demise, when I look at my experiences, I am convinced that I was sent by God. This strength is not from my body. It has been given to me by God. That’s why God also gave me the ability, strength, pure-heartedness, and inspiration to do this. I’m nothing but an instrument that God has sent.”
The Congress party’s reaction to Bhagwat’s speech highlights the ongoing political tensions between the ruling party and the opposition. Jairam Ramesh’s comment reflects the Congress’s strategy to question the Prime Minister’s narrative and draw attention to perceived criticisms from within the Sangh Parivar.
This incident is the latest in a series of political exchanges between the Congress and the BJP. Both parties have been engaging in a war of words over various issues, from governance to ideology. The Congress’s swift response to Bhagwat’s speech indicates their readiness to capitalize on any opportunity to challenge the Prime Minister.
The RSS, as the ideological parent of the BJP, holds significant influence over its policies and leadership. Mohan Bhagwat’s statements are often scrutinized for insights into the organization’s stance on various issues. The interpretation of his recent remarks as a critique of PM Modi adds a new dimension to the political discourse.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, such incidents underscore the complex dynamics between the RSS, BJP, and the Congress. The Congress’s attempt to leverage Bhagwat’s comments for political gain demonstrates their ongoing efforts to position themselves as a formidable opposition.
In the coming days, it will be interesting to observe how the BJP responds to this development and whether it will impact the party’s strategy. The interplay between the RSS’s ideological guidance and the BJP’s political maneuvers remains a critical aspect of Indian politics.
