What is the Uniform Civil Code?

Implementation in Uttarakhand
During the 2022 elections, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami promised the UCC. A 5-member committee led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai consulted 2.3 lakh citizens and drafted a 740-page report. This report was passed by the state assembly on February 6, 2024, and signed into law by the Governor and the President by March. The law took effect on January 27, 2025.
