“Aakhir Tak – In Depth”
Canada’s Statement:
The Canadian government issued a clarification on Friday, stating that there is no direct evidence linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, or National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing.
A report in a Canadian newspaper alleged that Home Minister Amit Shah orchestrated Nijjar’s murder, claiming top Indian officials were informed of the plan. However, the same report admitted a lack of evidence to substantiate these claims.
In its statement, the Canadian government emphasized, “The Government of Canada has not stated, nor is it aware of evidence, linking Prime Minister Modi, Minister Jaishankar, or NSA Doval to criminal activity in Canada.”
India’s Response:
India’s Ministry of External Affairs dismissed the report as “absurd” and “speculative.” Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Such ludicrous allegations further damage already strained ties.”
India has repeatedly denied any involvement in Nijjar’s killing and accused Canada of harboring pro-Khalistan extremist groups.
Escalating Tensions:
Diplomatic relations between India and Canada worsened following Nijjar’s murder in June 2023. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) recently accused Indian agents of criminal activities, including extortion and intimidation, on Canadian soil. In retaliation, both nations expelled top diplomats.
“Key Takeaways to Remember”
- Canada denied any evidence linking PM Modi to Nijjar’s murder.
- India called the report baseless and damaging to ties.
