Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena, in a letter to Chief Minister Atishi, accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of politicizing the issue of bus marshals’ reappointment. He pointed out that despite his directions on October 24, no proposal for reappointing the civil defence volunteers (CDVs) had been sent. These volunteers, who previously worked as bus marshals, had their services terminated in 2023 after the revenue department highlighted they were meant for disaster management duties.
LG Saxena emphasized that the reinstatement of bus marshals was crucial not just for their economic benefit but also for addressing the rising air pollution in Delhi. In October, AAP and BJP leaders engaged in a political tussle over the issue, with AAP protesting outside the LG’s office, claiming they and a delegation of bus marshals were denied entry.
