Aakhir Tak – In Depth
In a major success, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) dismantled Canada’s largest drug ‘superlab’ in British Columbia. Over 500 kilograms of illegal drugs were seized, and Gaganpreet Randhawa, an Indian-origin businessman, was arrested during the raid. This scenario mirrored the famous web series ‘Breaking Bad,’ as the lab featured sophisticated equipment capable of producing significant quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
RCMP reported the seizure included 54 kilograms of fentanyl, 390 kilograms of methamphetamine, 35 kilograms of cocaine, 15 kilograms of MDMA, and six kilograms of cannabis. The fentanyl alone was enough to produce over 95 million lethal doses, valued at approximately USD 485 million. Authorities also found firearms and explosives in the facility.
The ‘superlab’ was discovered in Falkland, a rural area 50 kilometers east of Kamloops, British Columbia. Investigators suggested that the lab played a crucial role in drug production for both domestic and international distribution.
The RCMP, supported by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), conducted a comprehensive investigation that intercepted 310 kilograms of methamphetamine prepared for export. This action prevented the drugs from leaving Canada and marked an essential milestone in combating large-scale drug syndicates.
RCMP stated, “This is undoubtedly a major blow to transnational organized crime and a significant step towards protecting Canadians and the international community.”
