In the run-up to the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Eknath Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena has released its first list of candidates. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will contest from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi seat, as per the list released on Tuesday. The party has fielded Sadanand Shankar Sarvankar from the Mahim constituency in Mumbai, where he will face Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s son, Amit Thackeray.
Other candidates include Manisha Ravindra Wayakar, wife of MP Ravindra Waikar, from Jogeshwari (East), Dilip Bhausaheb Lande from Chandivali, Mangesh Anant Kudalkar from Kurla, and Yamini Yashwant Jadhav from Byculla Assembly seats. Maharashtra Minister of Industries Uday Samant’s brother, Kiran Samrat, has been given the party ticket from the Rajapur Assembly constituency.
This development comes two days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 99 candidates, which includes Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who will contest from the Nagpur South West seat, and state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule from Kamthi.
The Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the BJP, the Eknath Shinde faction, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, has finalised its seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming elections. BJP is expected to contest 152-155 seats, Shinde’s Shiv Sena 78-80 seats, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction 52-54 seats. However, the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar is yet to release its list of candidates.
The elections for Maharashtra’s 288-seat Assembly will take place in a single phase on November 20, and the votes will be counted on November 23.
