Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
On Tuesday, Singapore scrambled two F-15SG fighter jets to safely escort an Air India Express flight IX 684 following a bomb threat. The flight, en route from Madurai to Singapore, received a threatening email warning of a bomb on board.
Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen provided updates on X, stating that the flight was safely escorted away from populated areas before landing at Changi Airport. Once grounded, the plane was handed over to the airport police for investigation.
“Our Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were activated. The plane is now under police custody for further investigation,” Ng stated.
While the number of passengers onboard has not yet been revealed, and no official statement has been issued by Air India Express, the flight was among seven Indian flights to receive bomb threats on Tuesday.
Other flights targeted include Delhi-Chicago, Jaipur-Bengaluru, Dammam-Lucknow, Darbhanga-Mumbai, Siliguri-Bengaluru, and Amritsar-Dehradun-Delhi. All of these flights were either diverted or underwent thorough security checks to ensure passenger safety.
Earlier on Monday, a similar scare occurred on three international flights from Mumbai, but all the threats were deemed hoaxes after anti-terror security drills were conducted.
