Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has displaced over 3 million Lebanese citizens. Most of the displaced are women and children who are now residing in relief camps across southern Beirut and other areas, relying on donations for food and shelter.
The Israeli military has ordered residents of over 20 southern Lebanese villages to evacuate immediately, prompting the conversion of schools and colleges into temporary camps. Although the sound of bombings unsettles the children, the residents have become accustomed to the situation.
A 50-year-old man living in one of the camps said, “The small children are scared, but we are used to it. We have no human rights protection. They are bombing homes, claiming there are arms inside, but that’s not true. We left for the safety of our families and children.”
This camp provides food for around 500 people, with supplies coming from a “civilian resistance group.” Another citizen mentioned that the situation is dire, with people depending on charity for basic necessities like food and blankets.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah started a year ago when Hezbollah launched rockets at northern Israel in support of Hamas at the beginning of the Gaza war. The conflict has escalated, with Israeli bombings killing many Hezbollah leaders. The death toll has exceeded 2,300, and a resolution to the conflict remains out of sight.
