Haryana Follows Chhattisgarh’s Path as BJP Ousts Congress
In a surprising turn of events, the BJP has secured a significant victory in Haryana, wresting power from Congress amid ongoing conflicts and perceived anti-incumbency sentiments. This victory echoes the recent political shockwaves felt in Chhattisgarh, where Congress also faced unexpected defeat.
The electoral outcome in Haryana brings to mind December 3, 2023, when predictions favored Congress in Chhattisgarh, only for the results to flip dramatically in favor of the BJP. With Haryana’s results, many are now questioning how Haryana mirrored the Chhattisgarh scenario.
The internal discord within Congress has been a significant factor contributing to its loss. In Chhattisgarh, the infighting between former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and former Deputy Chief Minister TS Singh Deo weakened the party’s position. Similarly, in Haryana, the evident rift between Kumari Selja and Bhupinder Hooda hampered unity, despite Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to bridge the gap.
Political analyst Sunil Kumar stated, “The key difference between Congress and BJP in both Haryana and Chhattisgarh is the BJP’s iron grip on party control. Congress failed to manage internal conflicts, leading to their downfall in both states.”
The contest in Haryana resembled a direct fight between BJP and Congress, much like in Chhattisgarh. Regional parties like Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) saw a significant decline, similar to Ajit Jogi’s JCC in Chhattisgarh, highlighting a bipolar fight.
BJP’s strategic replacement of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar with Nayab Singh Saini helped mitigate anti-incumbency pressures effectively. Kumar noted, “Had Congress opted for a change in leadership in Chhattisgarh, the outcome might have been different.”
Drawing inspiration from Chhattisgarh’s ‘Mahatari Vandan Yojna,’ BJP announced its own ‘Laado Laxmi Yojana’ in Haryana, promising ₹2,100 monthly to women. This initiative also contributed to the BJP’s electoral success.
